ON THIS DAY IN 1932, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Jesse Pomeroy Dies After 60 Years in Cell.”

The article focused on a notorious life prisoner in Massachusetts who died in jail after 60 years.

“During his 41 years in prison he saw no other prisoners and talked to no one but guards,” the Eagle reported. “… It was reported, however, that he was permitted to play the stock market from his cell and made money.”

JAMES DEAN died on this day in 1955. The rising young film star died in an auto accident in California, two hours after receiving a speeding ticket, at age 24. His final films, “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Giant” were releases posthumously in 1956.

TRUMAN CAPOTE was born on this day in 1924. An American novelist and literary celebrity, Capote wrote many famous books, including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “In Cold Blood.” He died in Los Angeles in August of 1984.
