On New Year’s Day, about 40 members of the Prospect Park Track Club and the Staten Island Athletic Club came together to participate in the annual Polar Plunge at Coney Island Beach.

Besides enjoying the exhilaration of entering the ocean where the water temperature was a frigid 51 degrees with an air temperature of a blustery 38 degrees, the runners plunged for a good cause. They donated $120 to Camp Sunshine, a camp serving seriously-ill children and their families. Tifenn Python and Geoff Vincent of the Prospect Park Track Club, first-time polar plungers, agreed, “Going in the cold water was the most invigorating way to start the new year! It also brings everyone together. We were very uplifted by everyone’s kindness…it was a great day!”
