Fundraising is going swimmingly at the Dimitrios and Georgia Kaloidis Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School in Bay Ridge. And when we say it’s going swimmingly, we mean it literally!

On Jan. 1, the school, also known as the DGK Holy Cross School, raised $24,000 at the Second Annual Dipping for DGK Polar Bear Plunge Event in Coney Island. The water was c-c-c-c-old, but that didn’t stop community members, including the Very Reverend Fr. Gerasimos Makris, the parish priest of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, from coming out to support 20 participants who bravely plunged into the Atlantic Ocean.

This year’s event raised nearly $14,000 more than last year, according to school supporters. All of the funds will go to support the DGK Holy Cross School, organizers said.

Located at 8502 Ridge Boulevard, the school is a Greek parochial school affiliated with of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. The school boasts an enrollment of more than 220 students.
