Residents of Southwest Brooklyn who haven’t yet gotten their flu shots will have a chance to take steps to protect their health thanks to two local lawmakers. Councilmember Mark Treyger and state Sen. Marty Golden are each working with local hospitals to sponsor health days in which flu shots will be administered for free.

Treyger (D-Coney Island-Gravesend-Bensonhurst) said he is working with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to offer the flu shots.

Gravesend residents can visit Most Precious Blood Youth Center at 2739 Harway Ave. on Oct. 17 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to receive flu shots.

On Oct. 21, flu shots will be administered in the Warbasse Houses at 2770 West Fifth St. in Coney Island between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

St. Mary Mother of Jesus Church at 2326 84th St. in Bensonhurst will host a free flu shot event on Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Flu shots at each location will be administered on a first come, first serve basis, according to Treyger, who said the shots will be given while supplies last.

“As we move into the fall and winter seasons, I am happy to provide free flu shot events in our local communities,” Treyger said in a statement. “I encourage residents to take advantage of this preventative measure. Let’s enjoy a safe and healthy flu-free holiday season.”

For more information, call either one of Treyger’s two district offices at 718-373-9673 or 718-307-7151.

Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-Southwest Brooklyn) announced that he is working in partnership with Coney Island Hospital to host a series of free flu shot events at three locations in his district.

Here is the schedule: Oct. 18 at the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department, 43 Seba Ave.; Oct. 19 at Golden’s office, 3604 Quentin Road; and Nov. 18 at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th St.

All of the flu shot sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An appointment is necessary and can be made by calling Golden’s Bay Ridge office at 718-238-6044.

“I am proud to again partner with Coney Island Hospital to make the flu vaccination available at no cost to residents of my district. I wish to remind everyone how important it is to get a flu shot so to keep from falling ill this winter.  I look forward to joining my neighbors at these events and promoting good health in our community,” Golden stated.
