Chadwick’s Restaurant was transformed into a good-timin’, free-wheelin’ country music honky tonk on Saturday night, Oct. 8. The popular Bay Ridge restaurant presented an evening of classic country music, courtesy of featured entertainer Loren.

Restaurant owners Steven Oliver and Gerry Morris were delighted with the results and promised to keep the country coming. Country fans lined the bar as they sang and danced along to their favorite down-home hits. Oliver told the Bay Ridge Eagle that they will 100 percent do this again.

“We hope to showcase country music every two months or so, or at least quarterly,” Oliver said.

The event was so successful that the restaurant was packed the entire evening, with 25 to 30 people bellied up to the bar.

Oliver was pleasantly surprised by the crowd Loren drew.

“I haven’t seen this kind of feel and energy throughout the bar and restaurant in many years. People were clapping and singing along to the music. They were even going up and performing duets with Loren and his daughter.”

Loren, now a resident of Staten Island, was born and raised in Chicago and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. The former corpsman transforms himself from a caddy master by day to a patriotic singing cowboy by night, performing heartfelt country music favorites from yesterday and today.

On this night, Loren had the crowd singing along to hits like John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Road,” Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” and Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”

Joining Loren was popular disc jockey Chris Van Zant of New Jersey’s Thunder Country 106 radio station. Van Zant had the audience clapping along to his rendition of Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue.”

Chadwick’s, known for its fine American cuisine, has been ranked among the borough’s premier steak houses since 1987. Renowned for its warm and inviting atmosphere and impeccable service, this neighborhood favorite exudes old-world charm along with a world-class menu. But this night it was all about country music.

Once Oliver had listened to Loren’s songs and watched his videos on YouTube, he was so impressed with what he heard that he immediately booked the singer to play at the restaurant.  He explained, “Loren was very good and we thought he would be something a little different for a Saturday night. We’ve booked jazz combos and two-guitar players in the past, but this is our first time on the country-western side.”

Fans of genuine, pure country music might want to keep their boots and Stetsons handy because Chadwick’s has officially joined the “country” club and promises to bring country music back to the big city on a more regular basis.
