Famous Brooklyn Heights firehouse doors headed to 9/11 Memorial Museum
The doors from Engine Co. 205 and Hook and Ladder 118 fire station on Middagh Street in Brooklyn Heights, painted with a moving tribute, have been removed and are heading to the 9/11 Memorial Museum, according to Heights resident Andrew Porter.
Eight firefighters were lost from the station, killed in the line of duty on 9/11. The mural, which features eight stars shining in the sky over the now-destroyed World Trade Center and prominently featuring the Brooklyn Bridge, was painted by Kye Carbone, Kia Carbone and firefighter Frank Visco, according to the museum.
“When I walked by the Middagh Street firehouse today, the famous doors were off their hinges and on the floor of the firehouse, with a black tarp covering the entrance,” Porter told the Brooklyn Eagle.
