In what has become a much-anticipated annual event, The Rhapsody Players are returning to perform at Saint Patrick Catholic Academy, located on the corner of Fourth Avenue and 97th Street in Bay Ridge. This year’s fundraiser will take place Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from the concert will go toward benefitting the school.

The Rhapsody Players are a group of talented vocalists and musicians who were brought together by group founder John Heffernan. They perform some of the most beloved pop and rock songs from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s — everything from Burt Bacharach, the Beatles and the Bee Gees to Motown classics and soft-rock favorites by The Mamas & the Papas.

Group members are Heffernan, Anthony Marino, Colleen Martin O’Donnell, Kevin Sweeney, Donna Heffernan, Bernard Smith and Kiernan Hamilton. The singers will also be accompanied by a six-piece band. Saint Patrick’s own Connor Mayrose will once again be a guest vocalist.

The Rhapsody Players have known each other for many years. They met while performing in community theater groups in Bay Ridge, including the Narrows Community Theater.

The singers decided to form a group to raise money for schools, senior citizens’ centers, pediatric cancer centers and other organizations, according to Heffernan.

The group takes their music seriously and delivers sterling renditions of fan-favorite songs that bridge multi-generations. Their audience is typically comprised of people of all ages who anticipate hearing the great pop standards from the American songbook.

This year marks the group’s 11th season. The Rhapsody Players perform an average of 10 fundraisers a year.

Tickets for the Nov. 5 concert at Saint Patrick are $25. For more information, email Heffernan at [email protected].
