New York Mets’ “Metsgiving” donates 100 Thanksgiving turkeys to Brooklyn families

Thanks to the New York Mets “MetsGiving” program, 100 families at Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) Seth Low Cornerstone Community Center in Brownsville have received a turkey for their Thanksgiving celebration.

New York Mets employees joined Brooklyn Community Service staff and volunteers in personally delivering turkeys to 100 low-income families at Seth Low Cornerstone Community Center. In addition, the Mets gave each family six tickets to select games in April 2017.

“The Mets are a community and family oriented organization that takes great pride in helping those in need,” said Haeda Mihaltses, Executive Director of External Affairs, New York Mets. “We look forward to opportunities through our MetsGiving initiatives during the holidays to help families who may otherwise be unable to celebrate.”

The MetsGiving initiative encompasses a series of programs in November and December that focus on helping the community during the holiday season. This is the New York Mets Third Annual Turkey Giveaway for Thanksgiving and more than 500 turkeys were donated to families in need across the five boroughs. MetsGiving will feature Mets players, front-office staff, corporate partners, and fans all working together to give back and help those underserved in the community.

“Brooklyn Community Services is very grateful to the New York Mets for selecting our program at the Seth Low Cornerstone Community Center as their Brooklyn site to receive Thanksgiving turkeys. These turkeys will help give many families –parents, children, seniors — a more festive holiday dinner,” said Marla Simpson, President and Executive Director of BCS. “At BCS, we are proud to be part of the Mets community outreach to Brooklyn’s underserved neighborhoods. Many of the Brooklynites we serve must truly struggle to make ends meet, even as they share holiday joy with those they love. The turkeys and baseball tickets donated by the Mets will help brighten their lives during this holiday season.”
