The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) announced on Thursday that for the first time, due to popular demand, the neighborhood’s holiday lights installation will remain lit throughout January.  Downtown Brooklyn residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the holiday lights along the district’s major corridors — including Fulton, Adams, Court and Livingston Streets; Flatbush Avenue; and Boerum Place — until Jan. 25, 2017.

“The holiday season is a special time of year in Downtown Brooklyn, and the beautiful design of our lights installation is beloved by shoppers and local retailers alike, so why not keep the spirit going into 2017,” said Downtown Brooklyn President Regina Myer.  “We invite everyone to enjoy the scene in Albee Square and the surrounding streets well into January.”

The lights went up on Nov. 17 at DBP’s annual holiday lighting ceremony, which featured performances by the Mark Morris Dance Group.

DBP worked with long-time holiday lights partner Illuminations and design studio Fantastica to fabricate five hundred steel structures in two shapes — a half circle and a triangle —  that have been paired in numerous combinations to create 35-foot-wide overhead skylines, 5-by-5-foot-high 3D boxes and light pole adornments.  In total, the designs have been wrapped in 480,000 linear feet of rope light (that’s equivalent to more than 90 miles, or roughly the distance from here to Poughkeepsie) and 260,000 mini-lights.
