Tired of trekking into Times Square to watch the ball drop? Don’t leave the borough this year and try one or a few of these outside-the-box New Year’s Eve celebrations in Brooklyn. There’s something for everyone.

1. New Year’s Eve Grand Army Plaza Fireworks Show

As an alternative to heading into Manhattan, New Yorkers can check out Grand Army Plaza’s 37th annual fireworks show just off of Prospect Park with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. The event is free and the fireworks start at midnight.

Be sure to arrive early, as it gets crowded well before the clock strikes 12, and there is live entertainment and hot chocolate starting at 11 p.m. This year’s gathering will be extra special since it will also be a celebration of Prospect Park’s 150th anniversary.

2. New Year, New Beer

What better way to spend the night than at the New Year’s Eve Brewery Bash at the Brooklyn Brewery? Join other Brooklynites as they celebrate the brewery’s new beers this year.

There will be music, an open bar featuring more than 20 beers, tasty snacks from Pies ‘n’ Thighs, Martin’s Pretzels and North Fork Potato Chips and a toast of an unreleased Ghost Bottle at midnight, fresh from the brewery’s barrel aging facility.

The party starts at 10 p.m. and is 21-plus. Please note that this event is sold out, but there are still spots on the waiting list.

3. Amble Across the Brooklyn Bridge

With a forecast set for 41 degrees and no signs of rain, spend the evening walking across the Brooklyn Bridge or the Brooklyn Heights Promenade if the overpass is too crowded. Come around midnight to see fireworks all over the city’s skyline from Brooklyn, Central Park, New Jersey and even Staten Island.

There is also a guided tour led by historian Dr. Phil who will be leading a group across the bridge all the while offering tidbits about the history of Brooklyn’s famous landmark. At midnight, the tour will pause so that attendees can feast their eyes on the many pyrotechnic displays.

Afterwards, hop on the subway or take a cab to another event on the list.
