Greenfield predicts success for muni-meter pay app
Councilmember David Greenfield, who co-sponsored legislation last year to allow the city’s motorists to pay Muni Meter parking fees with their smartphones, hailed a decision made by the New York Department of Transportation (DOT) to adopt an app-based payment system.
The new program, called ParkNYC, allows smartphone users who download the ParkNYC app to pay for all digitally metered parking spaces via their phones. Customers will also be able to refill the meter and extend the length of their stay via the mobile app
The program is only available in parts of Manhattan, but is expected to come to other areas of the city within the next few months.
