Happy Chinese New Year, Sunset Park.

The Year of the Monkey began Monday, Feb. 8.

To prepare for the coming of the holiday, we recently spent a couple days on Eighth Avenue and came up with places to celebrate after this coming Sunday’s Lunar New Year parade — see related story.

While we were there, we noticed interesting construction sites on Eighth Avenue. Here are three of them:

Eighth Avenue Center

It’s still a parking lot, for now.

A mammoth site sits just south of Brooklyn Chinatown’s Eighth Avenue and 62nd Street N train station.

Investors who bought the site at 6200 Eighth Ave. in Sunset Park for $51.5 million in 2014 want to build a 150-room hotel, two 15-story residential towers, a 17-story office building and retail space.

Their proposed project, which they call the Eighth Avenue Center, would be a large-scale development like nothing else in the neighborhood. Its designer is architect Raymond Chan, whose office is in Flushing.

Community Board 10 is opposed to the project.

City Finance Department records reveal the names of two of the site purchasers: Xiu Qin Shi and Aiyun Chen.

The Finance Department records indicate that the site’s seller, Andrew Kohen of MSK Properties LLC, is now leasing it for use as a parking lot. When development gets underway, the buyers will construct a lighted parking garage that’s at least 90,000 square feet in size in one of the new buildings. The garage will be a condominium unit and will belong to MSK Properties.

By the way, when Kohen owned the Eighth Avenue site, he was planning to build a Home Depot and an apartment tower there.

A new building

At other, much smaller, sites along Sunset Park’s Eighth Avenue, there’s development work underway.

For instance, bulldozers are rumbling at 5521 Eighth Ave., where a medical building is being constructed.

What’s being built, according to a mortgage signed by Andy Wong, president of Golden 8th Avenue Realty Corp., is a six-story, 81,000-square-foot office and retail building with 42,500 square feet of community facilities, 13,000 square feet of retail space and parking space for about 154 cars.

The realty company has owned the property on the corner of 56th Street since 1989, Finance Department records show.

According to city Buildings Department records, the developer wants to subdivide the building into condominium units — 36 medical offices, four retail units and one parking unit.

A nearly new building

Until recently, there was a three-story building with two residential units on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 57th Street.

Rather than tear it down completely, the owner of 5623 Eighth Ave. is constructing horizontal and vertical extensions to turn it into six-story structure, Buildings Department filings show.

When the work is done, it will be a 7,686-square-foot commercial building and community facility.

The property belongs to an LLC with John Zhong as a member, Finance Department records indicate.
