Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 56th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1927, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Cop Takes 2 in Weird Chase Through Jamaica Bay Swamp.”

The article focused on a police officer chasing and engaging in gunfire with two criminals.

“The fleeing plunderers chose to turn down Deer St. in their haste. Deer St. ends nowhere except in Jamaica Bay. Peterson … found the abandoned car hanging half over the bulkhead, ready to topple into the water,” the Eagle reported. “Peterson’s good fortune persisted when after a few hours search … he found two desolate, hungry and luck-forsaken youths floundering about one of the many swamps in that section.”
