On Wednesday, April 20, the Brooklyn Museum will host the sixth annual Brooklyn Artists Ball — its yearly fundraising gala celebrating Brooklyn’s creative community — honoring Brooklyn-based art-world influencers Stephanie and Tim Ingrassia.

Those who attend the event will be the first to view a major new installation, “Tom Sachs: Boombox Retrospective, 1999-2016.” Music world game-changer and Brooklyn Museum trustee Kasseem Dean, also known as Swizz Beatz, will provide the entertainment for the Dance Party immediately following.

The much-anticipated 2016 Brooklyn Artists Ball — the first under Anne Pasternak in her role as Shelby White and Leon Levy Director of the Brooklyn Museum — will be reinvented this year by David Stark’s event design team who will transform the Beaux-Arts Court into an elegant, magical and unexpected environment, and will feature many new artist-inspired surprises for guests.

Brooklyn arts patrons Carla Shen and Olivia Song are co-chairs of the event. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion Lobby with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before shifting to the Beaux-Arts Court for a seated dinner. The after-party crowds will return to the Pavilion for dancing and other activities.

“For more than 15 years, Stephanie and Tim Ingrassia have been passionate and visionary champions of the Museum, Brooklyn artists, and the Brooklyn arts scene at large,” said Pasternak. “We’re celebrating all that they’ve made possible — which includes the acquisition of significant artworks for our collection, the creation of our contemporary art galleries and so much more. It is impossible to think of the Brooklyn Museum’s growth and future without the name Ingrassia!”

Tickets start at $1,500; tables of eight begin at $15,000. Proceeds will assist with expanding access and enhancing the Museum’s visitor experience. For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets, visit http://bit.ly/brooklynartistsball, email [email protected], or call 718.501.6589.

About “Tom Sachs: Boombox Retrospective, 1999-2016”

Paying tribute to a defining symbol of street music culture, Tom Sachs will transform the Brooklyn Museum’s Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion into a living sound system through an installation of eighteen sculptural boom boxes. Hovering somewhere between art and science, functional and mythological, the exhibition demonstrates the artist’s unique DIY aesthetic centered on ritualand symbolism.

Working inventively with a wide range of materials such as plywood, foam core, batteries, duct tape, rudimentary wires, hot glue, and solder, the artist and his assistants fabricate and modify hardware, objects, and architectural constructions.
