More of a stroll than a parade, New York’s Easter parade is more informal than the city’s other parades. There are no bands, no floats, no marching and anyone can participate.

PAKISTAN — Mourning Period Begins: Women try to comfort a mother who lost her son in bomb attack in Lahore on Monday. The death toll rose on Monday from a massive suicide bombing targeting Christians on Easter in the city; the country started observing a three-day mourning period following the attack.

SPAIN — Holy Week Ends: A figure representing Judas burns on a cross in the village square in Tielmes on Easter Sunday, marking the end of Holy Week. Youths from the village who have recently turned 18 drag a tree trunk from a forest and erect it in the square with the help of older men before it’s burned. The burning, originally a pagan ritual, is a cleansing ceremony to rid bad things that have happened during the year.

IRAQ — Cleric Calls for Reform: Followers of the influential Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr chant slogans calling for governmental reforms as they wave national flags during a demonstration in Basra on Monday. Al-Sadr met with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi Sunday night after beginning a sit-in in Baghdad’s highly fortified Green Zone, intended to be a show of force following his calls to combat government corruption.
