Tenants at the Marlboro Houses will be getting new stoves and refrigerators under a $3 million package of state funding obtained by two lawmakers whose districts intersect at the Gravesend apartment complex.

Assemblymembers Steven Cymbrowitz (D-Sheepshead Bay-Gravesend) and William Colton (D-Gravesend-Bensonhurst) announced the funding at a joint press conference on March 3.

The Marlboro Houses is a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) development built in 1958 that contains 28 buildings spread over 34.8 acres. There are 1,765 apartments within the development. The complex is bounded by Avenue V, Avenue X, 86th Street and Stillwell Avenue.

Members of the Marlboro Tenant Association were on hand at the press conference, which took place at the Marlboro Senior Center.

The $3 million allocation, made possible by a 2015 statute that allocated $100 million from JP Morgan settlement funds for a public housing, will also be used to upgrade the complex’s picnic and recreation areas and construct a new basketball court.

Cymbrowitz and Colton each obtained $1.5 million for the improvement project.

“These funds will enable residents to receive new stoves and refrigerators and will improve outdoor areas so that everyone who lives here enjoys a better quality of life. Many thanks to Gov. Cuomo for directing funds toward these enhancements and also to Assembly Speaker Heastie, whose hard work and advocacy made this funding for Marlboro possible,” Cymbrowitz said.

“With the new plans, old appliances throughout the housing facility will be upgraded, which will help improve the daily lives of many of the seniors, working families and children who live there. In addition, the plan for a new basketball court is a great addition to the recreation for the residents,” Colton said.

The state is providing funds for improvements at 193 NYCHA housing developments throughout the city, officials said.
