Actress Cameron Diaz brought her star power to Bay Ridge on Thursday, making a special appearance at the BookMark Shoppe to promote her new work, “The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time,” in which the Hollywood beauty urges women to love themselves and embrace the aging progress.

Published by HarperCollins, “The Longevity Book” came out on April 5.

Hundreds of fans lined up outside the BookMark Shoppe at 8415 Third Ave. to buy copies of “The Longevity Book” and to meet Diaz and purchase an autographed copy of her book. The line stretched around the corner and halfway up 85th Street.

The San Diego-born Diaz, 43, who has starred in such blockbuster hits as “The Mask,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Gangs of New York,” “Being John Malkovich” and “Bad Teacher,” posed for pictures with her admirers.

Diaz did not take questions from reporters.

Diaz spent more than an hour autographing hundreds of copies of “The Longevity Book”  before fans were allowed inside, so they could get their hands on the book as soon as they came in. She took a short break from her autographing duties to enjoy fresh vegetables that Mike Esposito, the co-owner of Cebu, a restaurant located at 8801 Third Ave., had brought to the book store for her to taste. In tribute to Diaz’s heritage, Esposito also made sure to bring empanadas.

BookMark Shoppe owner Christine Freglette said she was thrilled to have a star of Diaz’s caliber in her store and was excited by the flurry of activity that surrounded the movie idol’s appearance in Bay Ridge. “It’s hectic but it’s a good hectic,” she told the Brooklyn Eagle.

“The Longevity Book,” which Diaz co-wrote with Sandra Bark, is her second book.

In 2013, Diaz hit Number One on the New York Times bestseller list with “The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body.” The book was co-written with Bark.

Diaz wrote “The Body Book” to empower young women and get them to appreciate and love their bodies, according to HarperCollins’ website. The book is filled with personal anecdotes from Diaz’s life as well as scientific information based on interviews the actress and her co-author conducted with doctors, scientists and nutritionists.

In “The Longevity Book,” Diaz shares her research on the science of aging, offers a holistic look at how the female body ages and reveals what women can do to enjoy the journey. The book includes research data showing that love, laughter and friendship are vital to health.

On the HarperCollins website, Diaz offers a hint as to her reasons for writing “The Longevity Book.”

When the actress turned 39, she noticed a shift in the questions she was being asked by journalists. Reporters frequently asked her how she felt about the fact that she would soon be turning 40.

“As these questions about my age became a consistent part of every interview, I realized just how frightened we all are of getting older,” she wrote.

The book is meant to educate and empower women, according to the website. It does not take an anti-aging stance, nor does it offer ways to look younger.
