Through the use of innovative technology from Google Expeditions, young patients at Maimonides Medical Center were able to visit incredible places without leaving the hospital.

Designed originally for the classroom, Google Expeditions is adapting its virtual reality system for hospital use. The user puts on one of Google’s Cardboard VR headsets that works with the user’s smartphone to create an instant virtual reality experience, while an educator can use a tablet device to bring the user through some of the coolest wonders of the world.

The kids at Maimonides were able to visit a rainforest, the moon and Mars, and even went diving with sharks.

“This perfectly complements our family-centered care,” said Dr. George Foltin, chair of Pediatrics at Maimonides. “We’re delighted to work with Google Expeditions on providing our patients with an exciting new experience in virtual reality.”
