The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce hosted New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as keynote speaker at the 10th edition of its Newsmakers series on Wednesday.

Schneiderman covered a wide range of topics, including his efforts to combat illegal drugs; the Homeownership Protection Program, which helps New Yorkers at risk of foreclosure stay in their homes; and the recent decisions regarding daily fantasy sports.

“For millions of people across the world, Brooklyn is synonymous with innovation and excitement,” said Schneiderman. “Everybody wants to be part of what Brooklyn is building. Thanks to the guidance of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the other leading civic institutions, Brooklyn is showing the rest of the country what a truly inventive and pioneering community looks like.”

“It is a true honor to host Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in Brooklyn,” said Brooklyn Chamber President and CEO Carlo Scissura. “The attorney general is a champion for business owners and employees across New York state and I applaud his vision to create an equal economy for all New Yorkers.”

“Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is a fantastic addition to the Brooklyn Chamber’s Newsmakers series,” said Brooklyn Chamber Board Chair Denise Arbesu. “His service to New York state helps our innovation economy grow and keeps families, residents and workers protected.”

Newsmakers is sponsored exclusively by Investors Bank and is held in conjunction with NYU Tandon School of Engineering and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.

Investors Bank COO Domenick A. Cama said, “By partnering with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce we were able to help support the Newsmakers series, which has brought such leading public officials as the Honorable Eric T. Schneiderman, New York attorney general, to our borough. We will continue to sponsor the Newsmakers events so that local residents and businesses have an opportunity to hear from progressive leaders who are forging the future of Brooklyn, our city and the state. Our alliance with the Chamber is making a significant and positive difference in the many Brooklyn communities we serve.”

“Law and Technology have never been closer to each other than they are today.  From protecting consumers from cyber fraud, to the creation of safer data transmission networks, the Tandon School of Engineering is working hand in hand with law enforcement to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers,” said NYU Tandon Dean Katepalli Sreenivasan. “We are honored to have New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on campus to continue to strengthen the links between innovation, academia and his office.”

“Attorney General Schneiderman has proven himself true a champion for New Yorkers,” said Tucker Reed, president of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. “We’re glad to welcome the Attorney General to the Brooklyn Newsmakers series and excited to work with his office to continue to make Downtown Brooklyn a place where families and businesses can thrive.”

Previous Newsmakers keynote speakers include NYC Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, New York state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Public Advocate Letitia James, among others.
