Bishop Kearney High School is paying a special tribute to the memory of an NYPD detective killed in the line of duty.

School officials announced on April 22 that they have established a scholarship in honor of detective Brian Moore who was killed while working an undercover operation in Queens in 2015. He was 25 years old.

Moore’s mother Irene is a 1976 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School.

Her classmates approached the school’s administration with the idea of establishing a scholarship in Moore’s name and were met with enthusiasm, according to officials.

The members of the Class of 1976 have been working for months to raise funds for the scholarship.

“It is a true privilege to honor the heroic memory of the son of our classmate, Irene,” said Class Agent Kathy Lacitignola. “Our hope is to see this scholarship live on in perpetuity.”

Bishop Kearney is a Catholic high school for girls located at 2202 60th St. in Bensonhurst.

The shooting death of Moore shocked and saddened the entire city.

He was shot on the night of May 2, 2015, while on duty as a plainclothes officer in Hollis, Queens. He and his partner, P.O. Erik Jansen, were on patrol when they spotted a man, later identified as Demetrius Blackwell, 35, adjust his waistband, police said. The two cops ordered Blackwell to stop. The suspect allegedly fired several shots into their patrol car.

Moore was shot in the head and died two days later at Jamaica Hospital. Jansen was uninjured. Moore, who made more than 150 arrests during his career, was the son of a New York City police detective.

Moore was promoted to detective posthumously.

Blackwell has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder and other charges.

There were numerous tributes to Moore following his death.

On May 5, 2015, the New York Mets wore NYPD caps and held a moment of silence before their game against the Baltimore Orioles that day.

In July of 2015, the City Council voted to name the street corner of 222nd Street and 92nd Road in Queens in Moore’s memory. The street corner is located near the 105th Police Precinct, where Moore was assigned.
