Priscilla Consolo has made her big decision.

As the Brooklyn Eagle reported earlier this year, Consolo, a Fordham University senior from Gravesend, had her pick of top law schools across the country.

Consolo received acceptance letters from such top law schools as New York University, Georgetown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Emory University, Fordham University, Boston University, Boston College, George Washington University, Notre Dame University, Vanderbilt University, the College of William & Mary and Washington University in St. Louis.

She has decided to attend New York University Law School.

“From the very beginning, NYU was my dream school,” Consolo told the Eagle. “I visited the campus and loved it. It’s a great location and the school itself is beautiful.”

But while Consolo fell in love with NYU, she worried about the cost. Tuition is $60,000 a year. “I come from a working-class Brooklyn background,” she said.

So, she was extremely grateful when, a few months after she gained acceptance to NYU, she learned that the school was offering her a full scholarship under its AnBryce program.

The AnBryce Scholarship was established in 1998 by Anthony and Beatrice Welters and provides financial assistance to students who are the first in their families to attend college. Anthony Welters, a 1977 graduate of NYU, was the first member of his family to earn a university degree.

In addition to the fact that she will attend law school under a full scholarship, Consolo is happy to be part of the AnBryce program for another reason. “The AnBryce provides mentoring, guidance and support. I know I will need it,” she told the Eagle.

Consolo, who will graduate from Fordham next month with a 3.971 GPA, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, serves as president of Fordham’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society), participates in student government and has volunteered for the campus ministry since her freshman year.

She is also Gravesend-Bensonhurst civic leader who co-founded the anti-litter campaign Clean-Up and Speak-Up with Assemblymember William Colton and Councilmember Mark Treyger, and has helped to lead the fight against the city’s plans to build a trash-processing plant on the shore of Gravesend Bay.
