Mother’s Day will come early for two women who have devoted their lives to their families and to their church as they will be the guests of honor at the Seventh Annual Benefit Dinner for the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn on May 3.

Jeannette Abi Habib and Nohade Boorady will be honored at the dinner, which will take place at the New York Athletic Club at 6 p.m.

The dinner will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Eparchy. The Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn is made up of 45 parishes, including Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral on Remsen Street, a seminary, a convent and a monastery. The Eparchy reaches into 16 states along the East Coast from Maine to Florida.

The Eparchy operates under the direct jurisdiction of Pope Francis.

Proceeds from the May 3 dinner will be used to educate seminarians, support poor parishes and missions and assist retired priests, according to organizers. Ten percent of the proceeds of the dinner will be given to support Christians in Lebanon.

Bishop Gregory Mansour, the leader of the Eparchy, requested support for the fundraising effort.

“I invite everybody to join with us on May 3, in person or in spirit, and I ask every person to support this year’s benefit dinner to whatever extent they can,” he said.

Our Lady of Lebanon recently became a focal point for Maronite Catholics from all over the country when it hosted a relic of Saint Sharbel, a revered figure for Maronite Catholics.

Thousands of people came to the cathedral to view the relic.

Saint Sharbel was born in 1828 in North Lebanon and entered the Monastery of St. Maron at the age of 23 and took the name Sharbel in honor of a second century church martyr. He became a priest in 1859 and died in 1898. He was canonized as a saint in 1977.
