April 5, birthdays for Pharrell Williams, Colin Powell, Juicy J
Brooklyn Today
ON THIS DAY IN 1914, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Police Wield Clubs on I.W.W. Rioters at Labor Meeting.”
The article focused on a riot of union workers at Union Square at which “many heads were bruised” by responding police officers.
“Police on foot and a squad of mounted men charged the crowd repeatedly and freed a passage through it,” the Eagle reported. “A number of arrests were made, and one of the leaders … was beaten with police clubs.”
