The organizing committee of the 149th Kings County Memorial Day Parade will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 17, to finalize plans for the big march to take place in Bay Ridge later this month.

The meeting, which is being held to discuss the logistics of the parade, will take place at the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton’s Post Chapel, Building 219, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Anyone who wishes to attend the session should contact Anthony Giovinco at 917-664-8850 and leave their name so that he can arrange for their entry onto the military base.

The parade, one of the oldest Memorial Day parades in the country, will take place on Memorial Day, May 30, starting at 11 a.m. The theme of this year’s parade is “Service, Valor, Sacrifice.” Hon. Jerome D. Cohen, a World War II veteran, is the grand marshal.

The parade route will begin in Third Avenue and 78th Street and end in John Paul Jones Park on Fourth Avenue and 101st Street.

Veterans do not have to be a member of a veteran’s organization to march. The committee is inviting all veterans to participate.
