The first roses are blooming in Bed-Stuy.

Gardeners have spring flowers bursting forth all over the neighborhood.

Some of them are trying to win the annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest.

Of course, Bedford-Stuyvesant has architectural eye candy on so many of its streets, whatever the season. But the historic rowhouses and stand-alone mansions look especially good when framed by blooming branches of lilac or spirea.
