Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 139th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1881, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “A Stern Chase.”

The article focused on two women who bought a steam yacht together; what started as a shared dream ended up in a lawsuit.

“For some reason, not altogether disclosed, the parties did not work together harmoniously,” the Eagle reported. “Mrs. Johnson brought a suit to dissolve the partnership, alleging that the sailing master, who was [the] defendant’s husband, was too fond of splicing the main brace and that the vessel was in danger of being sunk, and all the passengers liable to be drowned at any moment.”
