Saying that Bishop Hezekiah Walker is “a man of his word,” Brooklynites turned out on Monday, June 13 to celebrate his induction into the Gospel Music Academy Hall of Fame.

Borough President Eric L. Adams teamed up with gospel stations WBLS 107.5 Radio and 1190 WLIB NY to salute Grammy-Award winner, and Brooklyn’s own, Bishop Walker for his work evangelizing as a pastor, preacher and musician. Walker is the pastor of the mega-church Love Fellowship Tabernacle and director of the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir. Readers may be familiar with his recordings and live concerts featuring the popular song and video, “Every Praise is to Our God.”

According to Love Fellowship Tabernacle’s website, Walker rose from a humble upbringing in “the tumultuous Fort Greene public housing projects,” to oversee one of the greatest preaching and musical ministries in the Northeast. His hard work expanded his ministry to include sites on Long Island and in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and down south in Lilburn, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina.

Bishop Walker is shepherd to a growing and multi-cultural flock of members varying in age, race and socio-economic backgrounds.

Love Fellowship Tabernacle, originally located at 2425 Pacific Street in East New York, was founded in November 1993. Although established with only eight members, Love Fellowship Tabernacle focused on the community’s youth, turning them from a life of drugs, crime, sin and despair “because of his ability to preach, teach and ‘rightly divide’ the Word of God without fear or reservation.”

Walker has a pastor’s soul—seeing and making his priority the need for souls to be saved, and for people to be rescued from any circumstances causing despair. This led him to move Love Fellowship Tabernacle to 464 Liberty Avenue, on Easter Sunday 1996. As a result, the membership expanded to more than a thousand members

Music is an integral part of Walker’s Ministry. The June 13 Borough Hall salute falls on the 30th anniversary of the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir. The choir will record a Live Reunion Concert at the Kings Theater on Flatbush Avenue on July 23. Tickets range from $29.50 to $75 and can be purchased through the Kings Theater and Ticketmaster.
