Tom McGann, president of the Coney Island Polar Bear Club USA, will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Bay Ridge Historical Society on Wednesday, June 15, the society announced.

The meeting will take place at the Shore Hill Senior Residence at 9000 Shore Road at 7:30 p.m.

McGann will discuss the history of the Polar Bear Club and talk about the club’s current activities.

“It looks to be an interesting evening,” Society President Tom McCarthy wrote to members in an email.

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the U.S., McCarthy said. Club members swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from October through April.

The club is also active in providing support to Camp Sunshine, a family retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses.
