The topics at the symposium included: The Impact of Traumatic Experiences and an Irregular Onset of Puberty on Eating Disorder Risk in Females; The Neuroscience of Empathy; and Social Psychology, People Preferences and Pro-Social Behavior.

Science isn’t the only area where Fontbonne Hall students excel, according school officials. Fontbonne Hall, a Catholic high school for girls, is located at 9901 Shore Road in Bay Ridge.

On May 28 and 29, Fontbonne students traveled to Sacramento, California to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League Championship Tournament. The team of Gabrielle Buenerd and Mikayla DeLorenzo took 13th place out of 300 schools competing in the category of duo interpretation.

Fontbonne Hall’s Speech Team has competed in numerous national contests including competitions at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Stanford universities.

Earlier in the spring, students taking Fontbonne Hall’s introduction to business course participated in the Fordham Interscholastic Business Challenge. At the all-day event, students delivered original ideas and presentations in three categories: business ethics, entrepreneurship and marketing.

Each of Fontbonne Hall’s three student groups made it to the finals.

Students who participated in the Business Challenge are enrolled in Fontbonne Hall’s Entrepreneurship Program with St. Francis College. The program includes courses in introduction to business and introduction to entrepreneurship, as well as a summer internship. Each class earns three credits from St. Francis College.
