Atlantic Avenue is pulling out all the stops on Tuesday as part of Make Music New York, the live music festival that takes place across the city on June 21, the longest day of the year.

Musical performances will take place in front of roughly 20 businesses along Atlantic, from Sahadi’s at the western end of the street to Writers Block to the east. Groups, troupes and solo performers will be playing blues, rock, pop, jazz, experimental, classical, Latin, reggae and Afrobeat tunes throughout the day and into the night.

Karen Zebulon, proprietor of GUMBO (493 Atlantic Ave.), which sells handcrafted gifts with a focus on kids, spearheaded getting many of the avenue’s merchants on board this year.

“Should be quite a special day!” she said in an email to the Brooklyn Eagle. “I have some really wonderful performers lined up, including the incredible P.S. 38 Steel Pan Orchestra and J-Boy Jahlonte, a 7-year-old rapper with back up little dancers!”

Performances at other Atlantic Avenue stops aim at a more mature audience. Performers at the Brazen Head bar (228 Atlantic Ave.), for example, include Jay Mcknight of The Dubs (soul, rock, R&B), Ventrice IV (hip-hop, experimental, jazz) and many more.

Zebulon has put together a website listing all the Atlantic Ave. performances and times at http://makemusicnyatlanticave.blogspot.com/.

Performances will be taking place at many other Brooklyn venues as well. Brooklyn’s Fifth Ave. is another hot spot, according to Make Music New York. From Dean Street at the northern end to 17th Street in the South Slope, more than a dozen venues will host musical performances ranging from musical theater to folk to electronic music.

Shows will also take place at Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, in DUMBO, along Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, in Williamsburg, Central Brooklyn and more.

A map of these and other Make Music New York locations can be found at http://www.makemusicny.org
