It’s summer time and for music fans in Southwest Brooklyn, the warm weather will bring the sounds of rock and roll, show tunes, jazz and folk music to their local parks.

State Sen. Marty Golden, who sponsors a summer concert series in parks in his senate district each year, is bringing music to the parks again this year.

Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-Southwest Brooklyn) has announced the lineup for the 2016 concert series that he is presenting in partnership with the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force.

The concert series will begin Tuesday, July 5, when Head Over Heels plays Shore Road Park at 79th Street in Bay Ridge.

All of the concerts begin at 7 p.m.

The 14 concerts in the series will feature musical acts including the New York Exceptions, the Brooklyn Keys, Carl Thomas, On A Good Run and a special “Irish Night on Shore Road” featuring the Canny Brothers.

On July 6, New York Exceptions, which plays oldies, will take center stage at Marine Park on Fillmore Avenue. Radio Daze will have audiences dancing to ’70s and ’80s hits in Shore Road Park on July 12. Get set for a British Invasion when London Fogg performs in Marine Park on July 13.

The versatile band Brooklyn Keys will bring back memories for fans of doo wop, disco and rock and roll in its July 19 show in Shore Road Park. Marine Park will play host to the Beatles tribute band Plastic Soul on July 20. Frankie Marra and his band will bring classic rock to Shore Road Park on July 26. The oldies band Witness will perform in Marine Park on July 27.

The fun continues in August with more concerts.

On Aug. 9, On A Good Run will perform oldies in Shore Road Park. Generation Gap will sing songs from the 1960s to the 1990s in the park on Avenue U and Van Sicklen Street on Aug. 10. Dyker Park on 14th Avenue and 86th Street will be the setting for a concert featuring Carl Thomas on Aug. 16. Thomas sings songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bobby Darin. On Aug. 17, A Sound Affair, a dance band, will perform in Marine Park.

The Bay Ridge St. Patrick Parade Committee will present “Irish Night on Shore Road” in Shore Road Park on Aug. 23.

The final concert of the 2016 season will take place at Marine Park with a performance by the Rolling Stones tribute band Sha Doobie.

“We have a quality lineup of entertainment, so mark your calendar, bring a chair or a blanket and make your way to the shows in our beautiful parks. I guarantee you will enjoy the entertainment that will feature classic rock, a Rolling Stones tribute band, the greatest hits of all time, disco, doo wop, rock and roll, dance and more,” Golden said.

Golden told the Brooklyn Eagle that his own taste in summer music is quite varied. “I go back to Frank Sinatra and all of those old guys. And I like Andrea Bocelli. But I can also get right into so much of today’s music, as well as stuff from the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s,” he said. “What I like to see is people coming out to our parks, hearing a song that brings back memories for them and seeing them get up and dance.”

The 2016 Concerts in the Park are sponsored by Golden with the support from Tracey Real Estate, the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, the law offices of Christopher James Patsos, Super Roofer, the Hen House, Dr. Vincent M. Adamo, Mussels & More and the Bay Ridge Manor.

All of the shows are free and the concerts are subject to change, particularly if there is inclement weather. For more information, call 718-238-6044, visit Golden’s Facebook page or follow him on Twitter at @senmartygolden.
