Brooklyn Pride begins 20th annual celebration

The Pride Flag was raised above Brooklyn Borough Hall on Monday in a special ceremony with veterans, LGBTQIA+ organizations and local citizens to mark the beginning of Brooklyn Pride’s 20 Years of Pride week-long celebration.

Events will take place throughout the borough during the week and will culminate with several activities on Pride Day, Saturday, June 11.

Tuesday, June 7:

  • An Open House and LGBTQIA+ food, art, performances and fun will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at 4 Metrotech (between Willoughby and Gold streets). Sponsored by Brooklyn Community Pride Center, the event will feature Elise Peebles, LGBTQ New Americans and Gabrielle Royal.

Wednesday, June 8:

  • Queer Memoir with Kelli Dunham will be held at Oyster Bar Brooklyn, 265 Fifth Ave., beginning at 6:30 p.m. New York’s first and longest running LGBT storytelling series gives voice to the queer experience. Theme: water.

Thursday, June 9:

  • Brooklyn Pride Comedy Show at Branded Saloon, 603 Vanderbilt Ave., is produced and hosted by Lois Thompson and will feature comedians Chewy May, Elsa Waithe, Emma Willam, Sal Caprizzi, JC Knows Best, Sydnee Washington and Pat Brown. The event will start at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, June 10:

  • Out of the Closet Thrift Shop will host an open house including refreshments, music, drinks and shopping at 475 Atlantic Ave. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, June 11:

  • The Pride 5K Run will take place at 10 a.m. at the Prospect Park Loop (enter at 15th Street Pritchard Circle). Runners will be able to take in the beautiful rolling hills of Prospect Park.

  • A Multicultural Festival with stage entertainment will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fifth Avenue from Third to Ninth streets.

  • Family Fun Zone at Old Stone House/ J.J. Byrne Park (Fifth Avenue between Third and Fourth streets) will host family-friendly activities including music, face painting, arts and crafts and more. The event will be from 11 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Twilight Pride Parade will begin at 7: 30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and will take place between Lincoln Place and Ninth Street. Emceeing will be RonB as Tina Turner.

  • Official after parties Dance Floor Warriors (Analog Brooklyn, 177 Second Ave.) and Hot Rabbit/Bad Habit (Lot 45, 411 Troutman St.) will be held Saturday night.
