“It is alleged that Yung referred to a dog owned by Brett as a ‘mutt’ and that trouble followed,” the Eagle reported. “Brett, according to the complaint against him, knocked Yung down. Yung’s head struck the stone floor when he fell and he became unconscious … The hospital staff refused to commit themselves to the statement as to whether Yung would lose his reason or not…”

JOHN DILLINGER was killed on this day in 1934. The bank robber, murderer and prison escapee was the first person to receive the FBI’s appellation “Public Enemy No. 1.” After nine years in prison, Dillinger traveled through the Midwest, leaving a path of violent crimes. He was killed in Illinois by FBI agents as he left Chicago’s Biograph movie theater.
BROOKLYN GREENWAY Initiative (BGI) will host the eighth annual bicycle journey The Epic Ride this Saturday from Greenpoint to Riis Park Beach. Riders will pedal through city, state and national parks and take in spectacular bridge and city views along the Brooklyn Waterfront and Jamaica Bay Greenways. New York City’s most populous borough, Brooklyn, is home to nearly 2.6 million residents. If Brooklyn were an independent city it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. While Brooklyn has become the epitome of ‘cool and hip’ in recent years, for those that were born here, raised families here and improved communities over the years, Brooklyn has never been ‘uncool’.
