The creepy, kooky, upside-down world of Gomez and Morticia will come to life in Bay Ridge next month when Narrows Community Theater offers its summer youth production of the Broadway musical “The Addams Family.”

The musical is based on “The Addams Family,” a series of single-panel gag cartoons in The New Yorker, created by Charles Addams, which depicted a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. While numerous film and television adaptations of Addams’ cartoons exist, the musical is based on the cartoons, not the television and film characters.

Narrows Community Theater will present the madcap musical at the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Hamilton in Bay Ridge on Fridays, Sept. 16 and 23 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sept. 17 and 24 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Sept. 18 and 25 at 2 p.m.

The main gate to the fort is located at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 101st Street. Photo identification is required to enter the military installation.

“The Addams Family,” featuring music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, was nominated for two Tony awards and seven Drama Desk awards. It won three Drama Desk awards and one Outer Critics Circle Award.

The Narrows Community Theater production is being directed by Jill Bolstridge, a teacher at Poly Prep County Day School in Brooklyn. She has served as the co-artistic director of The Children’s Theater Company in Manhattan, as well as regional theatres throughout the country.

Bolstridge has performed in several productions with The Heights Players and was last seen as “Lottie Child” in Narrows Community Theater’s production of “Crazy for You.”

The show’s musical director is Ray Bailey. Ashley Hacker is the choreographer. The sound designer is Steve Jacobs. Jill Bolstridge and Marialana Ardolino are the lighting designers. The stage manager for this production is Ashley Kelly.

For ticket information, email [email protected] or visit the theater company’s website at www.NarrowsCommunityTheater.com.
