Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 263rd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1931, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “L.I.U. Faculty Members Win Fight for Jobs.”

The article focused on two professors who were asked to retire early by the chairman of a special committee of trustees.

“Today Joseph J. Baker, the diplomatic secretary of the board of trustees, said no charges or accusations were preferred against the professors at any time,” the Eagle reported. “‘There never was a criticism made or complaint filed against these men,’ he said. ‘Everything has been ironed out. Everything is harmony at the university.’”
