Brooklyn Rugby was victorious on both the men’s and women’s sides this weekend, with the men topping Suffolk Bull Moose Rugby (NY) 17-12, and the women defeating Danbury Rugby Club 27-0.

The men, in their 2016 home opener, started the game slow, falling behind 12-0 to Suffolk by halftime. But momentum shifted in the second half, after Sean Chowdhury raced down the sideline untouched after receiving a brilliant offload from Toby Tornay. Brooklyn hooker Dan Newcombe added the team’s second try midway through the half, making the score 12-10, after both of Brooklyn’s conversions fell short. With only 10 minutes remaining, Chowdhury broke away for his second try of the game. Gennaro Anzalone was successful on the conversion, putting Brooklyn up 17-12. Brooklyn’s defense held strong in the waning minutes of the game, and earned the team its first victory of the 2016 campaign.
