Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 272nd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1909, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Man Found Drowned.”

The article focused on the body of an unidentified man that was found floating in the water at the foot of 51st Street.

“Lieutenant Sullivan of the Fourth Avenue station was notified that a body was seen in the water and he sent Patrolman James McCue to investigate,” the Eagle reported. “He reached the dock in time to assist some workmen in hauling the corpse ashore. The body was that of a man about 50 years old.”
