Matt Damon mulling move to historic Brooklyn Heights mansion

Actor Matt Damon is determined to find a nice, cozy home in Brooklyn. The property he’s looking at may be nice and cozy, but it also has the biggest price tag of any house for sale in Brooklyn, $40 million.

Damon recently tried to enroll his daughters in the prestigious Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights. The school was already fully booked for the year and would not bend the rules for the Hollywood star.

Now, Damon is back in the Heights — but this time it’s reportedly to go house-hunting. According to the New York Post, the actor toured a historic mansion at 3 Pierrepont Place. The building is 17,354 square feet in size, with 50 rooms, including 15 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms and more than 9,000 square feet of garden and outdoor space, according to an online listing for the property.

The house was built between 1856 and 1857 by architect Richard Upjohn. It would become known as the Low Mansion for businessman Abiel Abbot Low, a tea merchant. His son, Seth Low, was a mayor of New York City in 1902 and was president of Columbia University.

The house offers stunning views of New York Harbor, Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Statue of Liberty.

The building is currently divided up into eight apartments with short-term lease agreements in place. However, the new owner would be able to convert it back into a single-family house. The owner of the mansion is Jeff Keil, the former president of Republic New York Corp.
