Kings County Republican Party Chairman Ted Ghorra attended the presidential inauguration with his family and friends, community leaders, elected officials and Trump campaign team members. He wanted to share the historic event with his wife and oldest children. Chairman Ghorra told the Brooklyn Eagle, “It was an absolute honor and a privilege to attend the swearing in of our 45th president of the United States.  The positive energy and friendliness of both the inaugural swearing-in crowd and those at the various events surrounding this momentous occasion was amazing.”

This was not Ghorra’s first time attending a presidential event. “I was also a guest of Congress four years ago for the then-President’s State of the Union address, and appreciated that moment and opportunity and, of course, conducted myself in a very respectful manner despite my disagreement with the administration on certain policy stances.”

Ghorra voiced optimism about what’s ahead for the new administration.  “I am hopeful for our country’s future under President Trump, especially on the economic front.  For example, he has already signed an executive order removing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which would have continued the erosion of the American workforce.

“In fact, Sen. Bernie Sanders applauded President Trump [on Monday] for doing this. Business leaders from around the country also remarked about the positive environment for business development under the new administration, as many companies have announced that they will keep or return American jobs to our homeland, including Carrier, Black & Decker, Ford, Ali-Baba, Fiat-Chrysler, Lockheed and others. This is outstanding.”

Ghorra believes the economy is foremost on the minds of most Americans. He said, “Together with lowering taxes, lowering health care costs, removing outdated and ineffectual regulations [while keeping certain necessary regulations], repatriating the trillions in dollars held overseas, rebuilding a dilapidated infrastructure and other common-sense moves should prove to be very beneficial on the whole over the short and long term, and that is good for everyone.”

As far as the new administration’s handling of foreign affairs, Ghorra said that if the current state of affairs on the international front can improve, both Americans and foreign citizens will benefit.

However, Ghorra knows that this will be challenging. “God knows that many areas of the world are a mess, not the least of which is the Middle East, and that there are many other tinderboxes at this time. However, with a pivot to a stronger U.S. stance, replenished military and a more common-sense and direct approach to numerous situations, we can and should hope for greater success and a more peaceful world in the long run.”

Ghorra’s trip to Washington left him optimistic about the future, saying, “I hope and pray that people come together for the better good of us all as Americans, and give our president a proper chance to do well for all of our sake.

“We can agree to disagree on certain issues as Americans, but let there be communication, bridge-building and dialogue in a constructive way to find common ground and solution.  That is my hope and expectation.”
