~FANS AND CRITICS SPEAK OUT ABOUT INDUSTRY CITY’S DEVELOPMENT PLAN: Industry City’s owners have big plans for development. Two hotels. Academic facilities. Large stores. The Sunset Parkwaterfront manufacturing and office complex must be rezoned in order for them to carry out their plans, which would add about 1.27 million square feet of space to the historic complex. On Tuesday, supporters and opponents of the proposed rezoning turned out in full force at a Department of City Planning hearing held in Lower Manhattan. The hearing marked the start of the public review process that’s required when property owners seek zoning changes. At the hearing, Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, expressed his enthusiastic support for the planned development, saying it will bring job growth. The councilmember who represents City Council District 38, where Industry City is located, doesn’t share his enthusiasm. “We must keep the industry on the Sunset Park waterfront,” City CouncilmemberCarlos Menchaca testified during the public hearing’s afternoon session. “We must keep the ‘Industry’ in Industry City.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~STEP-DAUGHTER OF MAN KILLED BY NYPD BREAKS DOWN HEARING 911 CALL: The stepdaughter of a man slain by an off-duty cop burst into silent tears as she listened in Brooklyn Supreme Court to the 911 call she made the day of the shooting. Sobs from victim Delrawn Small’s family and friends erupted into the courtroom on Thursday as the 15-year-old girl’s barely audible screeches to a 911 operator were played in the murder trial of Wayne Isaacs. “He tried to shoot my stepfather!” the girl screamed over the phone, speaking of Isaacs. Isaacs is the first officer prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office after a 2015 executive order by Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave prosecution of police officers accused of killing unarmed men, to the AG’s Office. Isaacs has since been suspended from the force without pay. Charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, he faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. The trial is scheduled to continue later this morning and could end earlier than the expected Nov. 17 date based on the amount of witnesses to already testify.(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
~LEVIN TO DEBATE CHALLENGER CAMBRANES ON SUNDAY: Candidates for City Council District 33 will be debating this Sunday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. at the Commons Cafe, 388 Atlantic Ave. Incumbent Democrat Stephen Levin will be facing off against political novice Victoria Cambranes, an independent candidate running under the Progress for All Party. Cambranes’ platform focuses on issues affecting affordable housing and infrastructure. “The unfortunate side effects are the recent deaths of cyclists on our streets, the unprecedented displacement of those who have called Brooklyn home for generations, and the frustrations of residents in communicating their concerns,” she wrote. Levin has focused on issues including affordable housing and open space, recently helping to acquire the final parcel of the 27-acre waterfront Bushwick Inlet Park. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
