~A FIRST LOOK AT CONDO DEVELOPMENT 325 HENRY ST.’S FACADE:There’s a new face on Atlantic Avenue. The condo development that’s replacing a Shell gas station is now showing its face to the world. Part of a shroud was recently removed from the building, revealing a hand-laid red brick facade and multi-paned steel-frame windows. The four-story condo building, 325 Henry St., is in the Cobble Hill Historic District. Folks who used to fill up their cars at the gas station probably remember its address was 112 Atlantic Ave. The developers bought the gas-station site for $7.75 million in April 2014. Sale contracts for all eight units were signed some time ago. The highest asking price was $5.495 million, which was for a five-bedroom penthouse. Each apartment has a parking space — in the property’s automated parking facility.(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~PULITZER PRIZE WINNERS DISCUSS REPORTING IN THE AGE OF TRUMP: On Tuesday, the Brooklyn Historical Society hosted David Fahrenthold, a reporter for The Washington Post, and Eric Umansky, a deputy managing editor at ProPublica. Fahrenthold won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for unearthing the “Access Hollywood” tape that depictsDonald Trump bragging about grabbing women’s genitalia and for exposing discrepancies in Trump’s charitable giving. Umansky oversaw a project that won a 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. The two journalists were invited to speak at an event dubbed “Transparency, Journalism, and the White House.” “We don’t do this to change elections,” said Fahrenthold. “Between ‘Access Hollywood’ and charity reporting, we gave people a real sense of who Donald Trump was. Now, our job isn’t to take Trump out of power, it’s to show people what’s really going on.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~CBS LAWYER FIRED FOR FIERY COMMENTS ON SHOOTING: ABrooklyn Heights mother and top CBS lawyer made comments the network called “deeply unacceptable” about the Las Vegas mass shooting. “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing,” Hayley Geftman-Gold wrote on Facebook, likely referring to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. “I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters,” she wrote, and has since deleted. Geftman-Gold was the vice president and senior counsel of strategic transactions for CBS for roughly a year. CBS took swift action after her posts. “Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS,” the network wrote in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.”(via Patch)

~SWASTIKA SLATHERED LETTER SENT TO BROOKLYN BAKERY: A letter adorning a large swastika and a hate-filled message was mailed to a kosher bakery in Borough Park. The full flyer sent to Weiss Bakery read “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! JUDEN RAUS (jews out). N*****S AND F*****S MUST BURN IN HELL. CHRISTIAN IDENTITY IS BACK.” The bakery contacted Assemblyman Dov Hikind about it, who helped the shop file a police complaint. “It’s sad that we live in a time when such disgusting things are said about various races, including the Jews, but we will certainly take these matters seriously when they arise and act swiftly and responsibly, in tandem with the police, to make sure our community members are safe and protected,” Hikind said. (via Pix11)

~GOWANUS RESIDENTS DEMAND CITY REOPEN COMMUNITY CENTER:After waiting for 10 years, Gowanus residents are demanding that the city fulfill its commitment to reopen the Gowanus Houses Community Center, once a hub for the arts, a community gathering place and an educational and vocational resource. Neighbors, community leaders and officials rallied on Tuesday to draw attention to the need for the long-neglected center. The timing is right to get something done about the center now, they say. While the city moves slowly ahead with a plan to rezone Gowanus, the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for Justice has been working to draw attention to the issues public housing residents are dealing with. With so much public and private investment happening in the area, “it is unconscionable that another generation of families, comprising the largest group of NYCHA residents in the neighborhood, will grow up without a community center and its needed amenities to nourish and flourish within the revitalization of Gowanus,” GNCJ said. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

EAGLE SPORTS: D’Angelo Russell was getting tired of driving by teammates and hoisting 3-pointers over fellow backcourt mates all summer inSunset Park. That’s why Tuesday night’s exhibition opener against the arch rival New York Knicks in midtown Manhattan was so refreshing for the Brooklyn Nets’ newly acquired young point guard. “It was fun,” Russell said after scoring 19 points in only 16 minutes to lead the Nets to a 115-107 victory over the Knicks in front of 14,981 fans at Madison Square Garden. “Just to get to compete [against] a new group of guys. We’ve been going at it all summer, so that was good for a change.” Change is something the Nets are embracing as they enter this campaign with high hopes after going a combined 41-123 over the past two seasons, including an NBA-worst 20-62 in 2016-17. Russell and fellow new additions DeMarre Carroll and Timofey Mozgov were all in the starting lineup, alongside Brooklyn holdovers Jeremy Lin and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
