~SELFIES AT SUNSET IN BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK: They’re Instagram-era sun worshippers. On warm early-October afternoons, crowds are gathering on Brooklyn Bridge Park’s shoreline to photograph the sun as it sets behind the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. They’re sitting on the stone steps of the cove that faces Jane’s Carousel and the Empire Stores complex. October Light (yes, that was the title of a 1970s novel by John Gardner) adds a patina to the sunshine that illuminates the green lawns of the Pier 5 uplands and brightens the autumn flowers on landscaped Pier 6. Sailboats’ reflections are visible in the waters of the park’s marina. In a New York minute, the leaves are going to change colors and drop off the trees. In another New York minute, snow will suddenly show up. It always happens that way. So carpe diem. Stroll in the park while you can still wear sandals and short-sleeved shirts.  (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~KUSHNER COS. CUTS PRICE OF HEIGHTS HOUSE: Kushner Companies dropped the price of a gut-renovated, single-family townhouse in Brooklyn Heights to $9.5 million from $11.25 million. The space at 100 Pierrepont St.was part of a project to transform the house, with two others formerly owned by Brooklyn Law School, into five-story, single-family spreads in 2014. President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner spearheaded the project until he moved on to advise his father-in-law at the White House. In addition to the sales market, the 7,120-square-foot property is also on the market as a rental, currently asking $25,000 a month. The townhouse offers a fireplace, large windows, a garden and a roof terrace among other amenities. (via New York Post)

~GIRLS ON WHEELS: The ladies are shredding: The number of female motorcyclists has doubled since 2003, and one of the biggest and most prestigious motorcycle schools in the state, Motorcycle Safety School, is helping women get on the big bikes. MSS is owned by Brooklyn Heightsresident Diane Howells. “I grew up ski racing,” she told us. “I love speed, so it was an easy sell for me.” MSS started with five percent women customers, “and now we’re closing in on 20 percent, she said. When MSS reached out toBrooklyn Eagle reporter Mary Frost with an offer of an introductory lesson, she couldn’t resist. By the end of a two-hour class, she was riding a powerful Harley Street 500 by herself around a course in Spring Creek, Brooklyn. The feeling was exhilarating, Frost said. MSS is offering half priced introductory lessons to women and a women-only course (in the Bronx) this month. “It’s always worth trying stuff out, like anything in life,” Howells said. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~NEW DESIGN FOR DOMINO SUGAR REFINERY BUILDING: Part of the massive redevelopment project on the Williamsburg waterfront, the Domino Sugar Refinery building has yet to find a tenant, causing its developers to ditch the approved design for a shiny new one. Two Trees scrapped Beyer Blinder Belle’s already-approved design for Vishaan Chakrabarti’s Practice for Architecture and Urbanism’s glass-based plan. Under the old plan, the new interior was to be built into the old structure, but Two Trees had trouble “trying to woo companies into a space that remained awkward and dark.” The new design is expected to sport a barrel-shaped glass top and a new glass building positioned inside, not touching the old factory walls. With the 1882 factory landmarked, any new design will have to be approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which is expected to consider the proposal later this month. (via Brownstoner)

EAGLE SPORTS: Jordan Eberle is in Brooklyn for many reasons, the most important of which is to keep free-agent-to-be Islanders captain John Tavares in orange and blue for years to come. The 27-year-old forward, who has played alongside Tavares for Team Canada on several occasions, will be on the franchise center’s right wing beginning Friday night in Columbus, Ohio as the Isles kick off this critical campaign against the Blue Jackets. “I don’t think I’ve been this excited in an offseason in a long time,” admitted Eberle. “I think change is good. I think it puts you out of your comfort zone a bit and makes you train a bit harder.” Eberle, who was in Edmonton for seven years overall, was the one player Islanders general manager Garth Snow designated as a must-have this summer in his ongoing bid to get Tavares to sign the dotted line on a contract extension. Will it be enough? Only the duo’s ability to put up points and secure wins for a franchise in flux can determine that. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
