~AUTUMN SPLENDOR AT GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY: The scenery’s to die for. Famed Green-Wood Cemetery is a fine place for leaf peeping. And it’s not too late to take your own autumnal walk among the tombstones if you haven’t yet had a chance to do so. As of this past Saturday, when these photos were snapped, there were plenty of deciduous trees on the rolling hills of the 478-acre Brooklyn graveyard whose leaves hadn’t starting changing color. You don’t need to hold off until a sunny day to have a memorable visit to the historic cemetery, which was established in 1838. When the skies are gray, glacial ponds scattered around the cemetery become mirrors that reflect the mausoleums lining their shores. A pond called Valley Water serves as a reflecting pool for the cemetery’s century-old Gothic-style chapel. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~PROTESTS START OVER BED-STUY CAFE NOT GIVING CANDY TO BLACK CHILDREN: With increased numbers of African and Caribbean-American residents getting pushed out of Bedford-Stuyvesant from gentrification, one cafe in the neighborhood that didn’t offer Halloween candy to black children sparked outrage this year. The Strand Cafe was met with protesters over the weekend after two Community Board 3 members said they witnessed a staffer turning away black children and then giving candy to white children. “We want a message to be sent to all the merchants in this neighborhood who don’t want us here no more because they think they can make more money from white people,” one protester said. The cafe acknowledged in a Facebook post that they fired the person involved and have “zero tolerance towards any discrimination.” Still, more than a dozen one-star Yelp reviews have plagued the coffee spot in addition to more negative attention across social media. (via Eater)

~BROOKLYN DOG WALKERS RIP OFF WU-TANG CLAN: Woof-Tang Clan is in deep with Wu-Tang Clan member RZA’s lawyers, who say the Brooklyn dog-walking service ripped off the hip-hop group’s name. RZA, or Robert Diggs, filed a trademark opposition suit against the business when it applied for a trademark on the punny name. The suit was built further by Woof-Tang Clan’s site showcasing a T-shirt with a dog named Bali on a blue and yellow ID card, a nod to another Wu-Tang Clan member, Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s solo album artwork. Owner Marty Cuatchon swears he is just a fan though, and meant no disservice to Wu-Tang. “I am a fan,” he said. “We walk dogs. I thought it was a good idea.” (via NYDN)

~STUCK ON THE SUBWAY? RIDERS ALLIANCE OFFERS ‘ACTION KITS’:If you’re struck on the subway and are late for work, there is something you can do about it, according to the Riders Alliance, which has introduced a new project aimed at empowering riders to take action. This week, members of the Riders Alliance, along with elected officials and transit advocates, went into the subway system and began distributing “Subway Delay Action Kits,” containing cards with instructions for riders on how to fight for better service. The cards also list a link to an online “Fix the Subway” petition that straphangers can sign and instructions on how to tweet their subway frustrations directly at Gov.Andrew Cuomo, who the Riders Alliance say has not delivered on a promise to fix the subway system. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

EAGLE SPORTS: The St. Francis College Brooklyn men’s soccer club was less than 10 minutes away from its first NCAA Tournament victory in nearly 40 years last Thursday night in the Bronx. But the Fordham Rams came storming back to deny the Terriers a trip to the second round of the College Cup, rallying for a 3-2 overtime victory on sophomore Joergen Oland’s golden goal in front of 634 fans on a blustery night at Jack Coffey Field. “I think we tired out a little bit,” admitted SFC head coach Tom Giovatto. “It was tough to play again on Thursday after playing [the previous] Friday and Sunday [in the NEC Tournament]. We played well enough to win, but we were unlucky. That’s soccer.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)
