On Thursday, March 2, the Manhattan Bridge will become a unique setting to witness some of the largest outdoor video art installations in New York City.

The bridge will light up from dusk ’til 10 p.m. with “Digital Fairytales: Album II,” a new work combining visuals and sound pieces from various artists inspired by German tales from the early 19th century. Curated by Leo Kuelbs and Sandra Ratkovic, the installation will be projected on the bridge at dimensions of 65-by-40 feet. Spectators can watch from the Pearl Street Triangle.

This presentation will bring ancient achetypes, or recurring symbols and motifs, and references into the 21st century, according to the project coordinators. By creating this bridge through time, “Digital Fairy Tales” will reveal and enliven commonalities of the subconscious mind.

Also, through the use of digital media, notions of storytelling are allowed to evolve, just as they have throughout history. “Digital Fairytales” is yet another new way to tell some of the oldest stories.

The installation is part of Light Year, which has been taking place on the first Thursday of every month since April 2015 and is presented by 3_Search (Leo Kuelbs Collection, Glowing Bulbs and John Ensor Parker) in collaboration with the DUMBO Business Improvement District and the New York City Department of Transportation.

After a successful presentation of “Digital Fairytales: Album One” in October, The Made in NY Media Center by Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) has partnered with the Leo Kuelbs Collection to debut “Album Two” in their digital media arts gallery.

Since its inception, Light Year has hosted the work of more than 100 artists and curators from around the world and takes place in conjunction with the DUMBO First Thursday Gallery Walk.

In addition to the projections on the Manhattan Bridge, there will be a panel discussion with co-curator Leo Kuelbs and the artists featured in the show at 7:30 p.m., at the Made In NY Media Center by IFP (30 John St.), with free wine and beer.
