The Brooklyn Brandeis Society celebrated Purim with its third annual luncheon celebration held at the bar association building on Remsen Street in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday.

“As you know, Purim starts Saturday night and tomorrow is a fast day on the Hebrew calendar, so it would have been a lot cheaper for us to have the party tomorrow, but we thought maybe not,” joked Justice Miriam Cyrulnik, president of the Brandeis Society. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to get together. Anytime we can spend socializing and having a lovely lunch together, it reminds us how it important it is to take a break and to spend time with our colleagues every day.”

Last year, Cyrulnik and President-elect Andrew Fallek dressed up in costumes along with a few other members for the spiel, but Fallek promised that he would not subject anyone to his singing this year.

“As usual, any event that Brandeis sponsors, we could not do without Lucy DiSalvo, so we continue to thank her for her hard work and effort,” Cyrulnik said.

The Brandeis Society will host another event on March 23 that will be a joint program involving other Jewish organizations at Colbeh in Manhattan. That event will cover the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, and will address whether there are issues of anti-Semitism that underlie it. It is necessary to RSVP with Cyrulnik for admission to that event.
