The Celts of the New York State Courts System, Kings County hosted its 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade down Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights last Friday.

Following mass at St. Charles Borromeo, the Celts braved the snow to march down Montague Street to the Supreme Court on Adams Street with this year’s grand marshal Chief James R. Sheridan leading the procession. Following the parade, a luncheon was held during which Chief Sheridan was honored as the marshal after he participated in the parade for the past 23 years.

“It’s our longstanding tradition during the parade and luncheon to hold a grand marshal ceremony and present that person with a citation,” said Julie DiPalma, treasurer of the Celts. “This year we were so happy because we got to honor one of our own, Chief James Sheridan, who has been the one to walk with the grand marshal for the past 23 years.”

The band that marched in the parade also came indoors to play at the luncheon. They were also joined by dancers from the Buckley School of Irish Dance and honored three members of the court’s staff — Daniel Leary, Barbara Parkes and Bruce Stern.
