On Wednesday, April 5, InterSchool Orchestras of New York’s ISO Symphony will hold a free community concert at Congregation Beth Elohim, located at 274 Garfield Place in Brooklyn, at 7 p.m., performing works by Mahler, Verdi and Bernstein. Congregation Beth Elohim’s tenor Cantor Joshua Breitzer will join the ISO Symphony in concert along with mezzo soprano Donna Breitzer, who will be performing selections from “West Side Story.”

“Our synagogue has become one of Brooklyn’s cultural hubs and is honored to partner with many great New York City institutions,” said Cantor Joshua Breitzer. “We are glad to count InterSchool Orchestras among them.”

“We are thrilled to perform at Congregation Beth Elohim — a community-centered temple in the heart of Park Slope,” said Karen Geer, executive director at InterSchool Orchestras of New York. “Both organizations are aligned with the importance of music education and community service, and it is wonderful to do this first collaboration. We look forward to many more concerts at this wonderful venue. Brooklyn families are welcome to speak with InterSchool Orchestras directors about auditions and the opportunity for children to play classical music at little cost.”

The ISO Symphony is the top ensemble among InterSchool Orchestra’s eight major groups and a leading youth orchestra in the New York City area. Students range from ages 12 to 19 and come from every borough. More than half of the students attend public schools. In recognition of its players’ accomplishments, all ISO Symphony members receive full tuition scholarships. Since the 2010-2011 season, ISO Symphony has been led by Artistic Director Jeffrey Grogan. This performance will be led by Conductors Larry Markowicz, assistant artistic director; and Brian Worsdale.
