~NYPD BEEFS UP SECURITY: In the wake of deadly bombings at two Coptic Christian churches in Egypt last weekend that left at least 44 people dead and more than 100 others injured, Mayor de Blasio and NYPD Chief of PatrolTerence Monahan announced punched up security measures at synagogues and churches across the city for Passover and Holy Week observances. ~“THE FINAL STRAW”?: Journalists at local news organizations DNAinfoand Gothamist will unionize, despite uncertainty surrounding DNAinfo’s recent purchase of Gothamist, as well as significant layoffs (think ⅓) to DNAinfo’s editorial staff in February. Even more uncertainty lies ahead, as aleaked email from DNAinfo management suggests that unionization may be “the final straw” for the financially struggling site. (via the NYT and the NYDN)

Among others, Boerum Hill resident Lynn Nottage scooped the prize for her latest play, called “Sweat,” while Fort Greene author Colson Whitehead clinched the award for his novel “The Underground Railroad.” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams says, “Any sentence about exemplary literature in America has to begin with Brooklyn.” (via Brooklyn Paper)
~BORDER WALL? SCRATCH THAT. MAKE IT A BORDER PARK: That’s the idea three Brooklyn-based designers proposed for an international design competition called Building the Border Wall. Their design for the international border park would run the 1,900 miles of border land. It nabbed second place in the competition. POTUS has yet to respond to the proposal.(via Men’s Journal)
