There are Instagram-worthy sights at every turn in Sheepshead Bay.

The waterfront neighborhood was a vacation resort back in the day. A big, beautiful vacation home that was built around 1870 and still survives at 2235 Emmons Ave. reminds us of this fact.

When we need a mini-vacation with a destination that can be reached by subway, Sheepshead Bay is one of the places that immediately comes to mind.

A bracing walk along Emmons Avenue gives us the chance to see boats docked in the bay. Sleek swans swim beside them. An iconic blue-painted footbridge across the bay leads to Manhattan Beach.

There are two bait shops on Emmons Avenue. The sight of them always makes us want to go fishing, except there’s too much to see on the neighborhood’s streets.

The former Lundy Brothers Restaurant building at 1901 Emmons Ave. looks like a large-scale Spanish Colonial Revival-style hacienda, which makes us feel like we’re somewhere other than Brooklyn when we see it.

Inland streets also have charming sights to reveal.

Superstorm Sandy put Sheepshead Bay business owners and residents through the wringer.

Owners of picturesque one-story bungalows on half-hidden streets near Emmons Avenue had an especially hard time with flooding. See related story.

But we do notice a lot of resiliency throughout the neighborhood.
