THE LEDE: Top of the morning, Brooklyn! Today, city council wants to makeMTA fares fairer, and perhaps it was inevitable that Brooklyn would birth the“farm-to-condo” movement. Plus, an activist publishing house in DUMBOmakes sure you read the revolution, we deliver a profile on Brooklyn nativeChuck Connors (of “The Rifleman” fame), and we dive into…the sewers.

IMPRINT: One adjective wasn’t enough for this cover of High Life.

The Rundown

~”FAIR FARES”: City Council is angling for $50 million in funding to launch a pilot program that would offer reduced MTA fares to New York’s roughly 800,000 low-income residents. The program comes with an estimated $200 million price tag, and Mayor de Blasio argues that the state should pick up the tab. (via Curbed NY, the NYDN and DNAinfo)

~“FARM-TO-CONDO”: Condo owners at an 18-story building near Barclays Center will soon be able to bring the farm-to-table movement to…their rooftops. Owners can sign up for a small rooftop plot where they can grow veggies alongside Ian Rothman, of Olmsted fame. (via the WSJ)

~OP-ED: YUPPIES AREN’T THE ONLY ONES MOVING TO BROOKLYN: The 2016 U.S. Census Bureau’s population stats are in, and about 5,000 more people call Brooklyn home than in 2015…and that rise is more a result of the large number of immigrants coming here from all parts of the globe than it is of any large influx of young professionals and artists coming here from elsewhere in the U.S. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~NOT MERELY A MIRAGE: The controversial East Williamsburg pop-up club The Brooklyn Mirage was indeed living up to its name last summer after city officials repeatedly shut down the venue for a host of violations. Now, following a long struggle with local law enforcement, Community Board 1 and a series of botched raves, the club appears to be on track to reopening permanently after securing a full liquor license this week. The 6,000-person venue is set to reopen in May or June. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~THE RESISTANCE WILL BE PUBLISHED: Small, activist press and publisher Melville House is thriving in the time of Trump. Based on a quiet street in DUMBO, the publishing house has been collecting acquisitions left and right, and co-founder Dennis Johnson says, “I feel like I’ve prepared my whole life for this moment.” (via The Bridge)

~BROOKLYNITE OF THE DAY: Iconic Western actor Chuck Connors, best known as the star of the hit TV series “The Rifleman,” grew up in right here inBay Ridge. In addition to showing off his rapid-fire skills with a Winchester rifle, he also completed a stint with the Dodgers. Check out these photos of Connors’ childhood homes in Bay Ridge, as well as the man himself in both cowboy hat and baseball uniform. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~QUESTION OF THE DAY: Ever wonder what the inside of a Brooklyn sewer looks like? We have an answer. We spoke with Steve Duncan, Brooklyn’s own urban explorer, daredevil and sewer man. (via The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, with pics)
